Treatment for shingles
Shingles (also called herpes zoster) is the disease caused when the chickenpox virus reactivates. Shingles can cause severe pain that can last for months.
If you have one of the following symptoms, you may have shingles:
- Painful blistering rash
- A tingling, burning sensation on the skin
A consultation to treat shingles will involve your pharmacist meeting with you in a private consulting room to explain the service and ask for your consent to be part of the Chemist Care Now program. They will ask questions about the care you need to assess if they can treat you, or if they need to refer to your doctor.
If you are aged 18 years and older, you may be eligible for shingles treatment, speak to a UFS pharmacist to check your eligibility.
Most UFS pharmacies can undertake a shingles consultation for you. Please make an appointment by visiting the Pharmacy Bookings page.
