Psoriasis Treatment

The Victorian Government’s Chemist Care Now Program, makes it possible for some patients to receive medications or treatments at a local pharmacy, without having to get a prescription first. All UFS pharmacies are participating in this program. The following treatment is available at UFS pharmacies:

Treatment of a flare up of mild psoriasis

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin condition. It is not contagious. Symptoms include red scaly patches on skin, itchiness and flaking of the skin. The areas most affected are the scalp, elbows and knees, but psoriasis can occur anywhere on the body. There is no cure for psoriasis, but it can be completely controlled with treatment.

A consultation to treat a mild psoriasis flare up will involve your pharmacist meeting with you in a private consulting room to explain the service and ask for your consent to be part of the Chemist Care Now program. They will ask questions about the care you need to assess if they can treat you, or if they need to refer to your doctor.

If you are aged 18 years and older, and currently have a flare-up of mild plaque psoriasis, speak to a UFS pharmacist to check if you can get a resupply of your cream or ointment.
