Pneumococcal Vaccination

*Please note that Doveton Street North UFS Pharmacy does not offer vaccinations.
The Pneumococcal disease is a bacterial infection. It is especially serious for young children and older people. It can cause pneumonia, bloodstream infection, and meningitis (inflammation of the membranes around the brain).
UFS pharmacies (excluding Doveton Street North) offer the pneumococcal vaccination, administered by an immunisation accredited pharmacist, who will update your national immunisation record the same way a GP would.
Who should get vaccinated?
Free pneumococcal vaccination under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) is available for eligible people most at risk of complications from pneumococcal.
- Routine vaccination in infants and children (not available in pharmacy)
- Adults aged 65 years and over
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults aged 25 years and over
- Children, adolescents and adults with specified medical conditions that increase their risk of severe disease
From 1 July 2026, the National Immunisation Program will introduce a new single-dose pneumococcal vaccine for adults. This update lowers the recommended vaccination age, simplifies the schedule, and provides broader protection. The new vaccine will replace the current adult pneumococcal vaccines.
